Parabens and SLS
Parabens

These are chemical preservatives that are fund in a variety of everyday products such as cosmetics, creams, lotions, bath and shower gels and toothpaste. They are extremely common and have been used for many years. Recently there are some studies that suggest parabens may be harmful because they are not broken down by the body and so accumulate with continual use. They are reported to mimic oestrogen and have been found in breast cancer tumours. Additionally they are reported to damage male sperm production.

That said, studies concerning the long term effects of parabens are inconclusive and some experts argue that they are safe given their long term, world wide usage.

Any products that contains water (such as creams, lotions, gels) must contain preservatives, otherwise they would last about 2 weeks (if kept in the fridge) before going moldy. Because there are acceptable alternatives to parabens now on the market, Cotswold Caress products are made with parabens.

SLS

This stands for Sodium lauryal Sulphate and is a detergent added to products to make them foam and lather.r It is therefore common in soap, shampoo, shower gel and bubble bath. Sodium laureth sulphate (SLES) is also a similar type of chemical.

SLS and SLES are reported to cause skin, scalp and eye irritation in high concentrations. They may also dry the skin out. However, some experts claim they are safe, especially given their long term, wide usage.

Again, there is inconclusive evidence but Cotswold Caress products are made without SLS and SLES.
